We need to help people focus on core values because it’s what our society needs: more empathy, more unconditional love and more unity. We have a lack of representatives for causes in many countries so if we can connect with people and they can feel close to us it’s our duty to inspire people, to bring positivity and hope. We live in a world where celebrity has a really strong voice. One shining moment 2022 march madness1/22/2024 ![]() ![]() Note the smile on David McCormack’s face. The Jayhawks then returned to the floor with positive vibes. So we can do this, because that’s the way it was in ’08.” “And they all said being down nine with two minutes left. I did tell them before the half was over which would be harder, being down nine with two minutes to go or being down 15 with 20?” he said. That was 2008, when those Jayhawks rushed past Memphis and won the championship in overtime. Self reached back to the past, to the shining moment of his coaching life - until Monday - for an example to give his team. “With the group of guys as experienced as this and been around and know each other so well,” Mitch Lightfoot said, “it’s kind of hard to see us get rattled.” “I think he was looking down pretty ticked at us.”īut the players weren’t overly concerned. We were kind of sped up by the moment.” Self thought of his father once more. All seemed well.īut what to do when North Carolina took a 40-25 lead into halftime and in Agbaji’s words, “We weren’t playing our game. “I don’t think it’s me but I made a conscious effort this time not to let anything show,” he said of his outward calm. He had seen other Kansas teams not react well in the bright lights. If only he could have them right for New Orleans. They were down six at halftime to Miami in the Elite Eight and positively crushed the Hurricanes 47-15 in the second half. They were down 17 at Kansas State the week his father died and came back to win. “No headaches, no issues, no selfishness, no hidden agendas, no side streets.”Īnd the Jayhawks seemed especially dangerous when pushed. “I told my people close to me I don’t think I’ve ever felt this much joy coaching a team as I have this team,” Self said. But this team, laden with veterans who have invested much of their young lives in Kansas basketball, had the feel of something special. ![]() 1, but COVID wiped out that tournament and that chance. The second might have come in 2020 when the Jayhawks were No. “Nobody’s ever put pressure on me that we’ve got to win another one, but I think I put pressure on myself knowing that this place deserves more than what we’ve won.” “When they’re the all-time winningest program, and when the inventor of the game (James Naismith) was your first coach, and when the likes of Adolph Rupp comes from Kansas and Dean Smith comes from Kansas and Wilt Chamberlain comes from Kansas, the expectations are such where being good is OK, but it’s not enough. But the one title from 2008 was starting to look a tad lonely. Self has had a terrific run at Kansas, already good enough for the Hall of Fame. The father would be proud not only of how the championship was finally secured, but what it means to the career of his son. “The biggest thing was, of all the ways you could win a game, this one would make him most proud.”īRAGGING RIGHTS: Teams with the most national championships It’s the one time he didn’t talk back,” Self said. When we were down six then 10 then 15, I talked to him then. was in the Caesars Superdome Monday night. ![]() Self lost his father in January, but one thing was clear: Bill Self Sr. Ochai Agbaji named Most Outstanding Player after winning 2022 NCAA tournament championshipĪnd Kansas won a game that went straight to the heart of its coach. “I was just trying to drive to the basket and I just kind of unconsciously tried to go off my right foot. I thought it would have been an easy basket,” he would say later. “I thought I really got the angle I wanted. In his 38th minute of a 15 point, 15 rebound double-double Monday night, with North Carolina down one with 50 seconds left and desperately needing a play, Bacot tried to make one in the lane. Armando Bacot had said on Sunday they would have to cut off his right leg to keep him from answering the bell against Kansas, never mind the ankle he sprained against Duke. Kansas won a game where the biggest turnover of the night - maybe the season - came because a Tar Heel was courageously playing through the pain of an injured ankle. Over a 10-minute span in the second half, Kansas outscored North Carolina by 21.ĪNOTHER VIEW: Looking back at Kansas' title win Over a 16-minute span in the first half, North Carolina outscored Kansas by 23 points. Kansas won a game that went thisaway and then thataway. “When we saw our own blood, we didn’t panic.” “I think the way we won made it even more special,” Self said. No team had ever done that before, not in 82 NCAA tournaments. Kansas won a game and a championship 72-69 Monday night, even though the Jayhawks trailed by 16 points. Now there is a new hard-luck moment to live in NCAA tournament lore one of those whims of fate that is so ironic, it is as if the gods of the game themselves played a hand. Now there is a new championship game to cherish for its volatility, its twists and its turns, where nothing was sure until the last second was gone and the confetti poured down. Scrubs staffel 5 folge 20 song1/21/2024 ![]() ![]() Ru has an interest in medicine to grow medicinal plants, and Tia brought in livestock, as well as his family of Killer Angels and Lizardmen to help out in the establishment of the village (the so-called First Steps if you will). These two are frenemies that have a bit of hostility around them, but in the sight of Machio, work their hardest because both of them are the base foundations for more people to come. This raises some attention from the possible inhabitants, like the first few people to come to his village: the vampire Ru and angel Tia. Well, the first innings were hostile for Machio, but subsequently with yet another demon spider, the cotton knitting Zabuton, life in this new village begins to take hold, slowly but surely. ![]() ![]() Such is with the very first species coming to form their home with him: the Greater Wolves Kuro and Yuki, who were angry at their home has been tarnished by some unknown person and looking for retaliation. From demi-humans to monsters incoming from the largest tree controlling all traffic incoming and outgoing of demi-humans and monsters alike transforming from being hostile to being like home, it's of no doubt that Machio is doing a great thing for anyone who is in refuge or comes basically for the sole interest of wanting to know more about this new village. When you take a look at this simple premise, the possibilities are endless, as such with the show (and the original source material) in mind. With the largest tree around the vicinity for his farm, this is Machio's redemption at a second life, the Minecraft-cum-Rune Factory style-esque life that's a peaceful one to behold. Armed with God's Holy Artifact Multi-Purpose Tool from the get-go because of his wish to be a farmer, Machio's location resides deep within an area known for causing a potentially heated conflict between kingdoms, but he doesn't care about at the very slightest. Recognized by God giving him a second chance at life because of what he went through of a life constantly filled with bad luck, He grants Machio the Omnipotent Farming Tool and lands him in the same typical forested area that's far from civilization. Meet Hiraku Machio, the 39-year-old guy who died of the typical terminal illness in real life and got Isekai-ed into another world. And given today's landscape of the Isekai/fantasy genre, it's already washed out of its welcome faster than one could ever imagine. 14 volumes of content (as if the time of this review) in the few years since its serialization to now, I really question myself: is it THIS easy to hardsell to Japanese manga/novel companies that the idea of turning Rune Factory into a light novel is a noble concept? Sure, the executives would want to believe so, because while this contributes to sales, we the audience just get wholesomely fumbled around a setting like this which just works decent at best. Unfortunately, this being a Syosetu title that has been launched since the very tail end of 2016 and earning as much as Well, I mean, for a title like lone novelist Kinosuke Naito's Isekai Nonbiri Nouka a.k.a Farming Life in Another World, the idea of getting a headstart if you're a rather new author trying to nitpick about what has NOT come out of the overly saturated Isekai/fantasy genres in the past decade. Monopoly money dealing1/21/2024 ![]() I did not begin the game particularly successfully, and irritated with the prospect of going to pauper’s jail, I made a spontaneous attempt to bend the rules by offering real money during a prospective deal: St. Make too many poor rolls and it’s incredibly difficult to recover, and when this happenstance misfortune leads to my downfall, I consider how easy it would be for the same to happen in real life.ĭuring a January blizzard, my friends and I settled in for a long night. Winning in Monopoly requires some reserve of tactical acumen, but it’s really just about how lucky you get when moving around the board. I project myself into a future where I am left with a faltering business, an empty bank account, and insurmountable debts. When I struggle to buy property and collect pricier rents, when my dice take me into dangerous territory, when my deals backfire because of some variable I haven’t considered, I become unusually upset and irritable. While playing, I find myself increasingly unable to separate my in-game emotional state from my real one. (Think of one’s rich parents as the equivalent of landing on Boardwalk and Park Place.) Monopoly is the American Dream, shrunk to a tabletop. In America, we are meant to accumulate wealth and property, and the elements enabling our success can be as random as a roll of the dice. Amongst the iconic board games - Scrabble, chess, backgammon, and so on - Monopoly is unique for the way it streamlines and miniaturizes the dynamics that rule us in real life. Soon after its release in 1935, it became a hit. ![]() Her idea was copied by a man named Charles Darrow, who sold it to the Parker Brothers gaming company, whereby the rules were modified and the name was changed to Monopoly. Perhaps not surprisingly, the latter was more popular. She created the game, then called The Landlord’s Game, with two sets of rules: Players could win by achieving wealth for all, or they could win by crushing their opponents and assuming all the money for themselves. ![]() Monopoly was invented in 1903 by the fiercely progressive Elizabeth Magie, who designed it as a warning against prominent monopolists of the era like Andrew Carnegie and John Rockefeller. More specifically than other games, it also makes you think about capitalism, and the ways in which you’ll never be happy. We have never played a game that finished in fewer than five hours and like all games, it reveals the secret heart of the people you love, as they are free to pursue complete victory without the usual factors of empathy, laziness, absent-mindedness, etc. It is a perfect game when you are forced to sit somewhere for a very long time, because there is no game clock, and no easy way to speed up the proceedings. Every year, when the temperature in New York dips past freezing, my friends and I vote against catching hypothermia on a subway platform, and make plans to play Monopoly. ![]()

Mashed Potato Squash – These little white acorn squash usually weigh about 1-2 pounds each.Once you roast the squash, I suggest preparing it to taste with ingredients that are agreeable to you! Here are some suggestions to make a super tasty side dish. Look for these bright white winter squash at your local farmer’s market.
